A two-days workshop on ‘Islamization of Knowledge & Reforming the Curriculum of Economics & Management Sciences’ was held at (BIAM), Dhaka during 19-20th November 2009, organized by BIIT.
Prof. Dr. Aslam Haneef and Bro. Mustafa Omar Mohammed, Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, International Islamic University, Malaysia were present in the workshop as resource persons sponsored by International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). The workshop was divided into six sessions. In the 1st , 2nd & 5th working session Prof. Dr. Aslam Haneef presented the following papers:
1. Islamization of Knowledge: Why, What & How? 2. Islamization of Economics: Why, What & How? 3. Teaching Islamic Economics: IIUM Experience
Bro. Mustafa Omar Mohammed presented the following papers in the 3rd, 4th & 6th working session:
1. Islamization of Economics: The Important Role of the Islamic Legacy, 2. Contemporary Islamic Economics in Practice: The Case of Islamic Banking & Finance. 3. The Curriculum of Economics and Management Sciences: IIUM Model
After presentation of each paper, Mr. Abdul Awal Sarkar, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank, Ms. Afruza Bulbul and Ms. Kazi Farjana of International Islamic University Chittagong-Dhaka Campus, Mr. Md. Zakir Hossain of Asian University of Bangladesh, Mainul Islam Chowdhary of North South University , Kazi Sahadat Kabir Rimon & Md. Lutfur Rahman of Northern University, Habibur Rahman, Assistant Vice-President of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd., Mahabub Alam of Manarat International University were took part in the discussion and made their comments and questions in the different sessions. Prof. Dr. Aslam Haneef & Mustafa Omar Mohammed responded to these questions and comments.
In Addition to the above issues, selected reformed course curriculum on the disciplines of Economics, Finance, Banking, Accounting, Management & Marketing were presented in the workshop by Mr. Abdullah Raihan, Md. Shariful Islam, Afroza Bulbul & Kazi Farjana, fellow and members of the Curriculum Reform Team of BIIT.
More than 50 faculties of different Universities, Training Institutes, Banks & Colleges including North South University, Dhaka University, National University, Manarat International University, Northern University, Asian University, Darul Ihsan University, Kabi Nazrul Govt. College, Islami Bank and Bangladesh Bank participated in the workshop.
Prof. Dr Aslam and Bro Mustafa Omer were also invited to share their inputs on ideas in the following seminars and round table:
1. Seminar on ‘Islamic Banking & Finance’ at Central Bank of Bangladesh 2. Round Table Conference on ‘Contemporary Islamic Economic Thought and Policy’ at National Press Club 3. Seminar on ‘In Search of Morality’ at Asian University of Bangladesh
All of the participants and guests were very happy with their presence and inputs given by Prof Aslam and Bro Mustafa and all are looking forward to work together and contribute more to Curriculum Reform Project undertaken by IIIT.
