Remarks of Dr. Maimul Ahsan Khan I found the workshop very attractive and useful for evaluating existing syllabus of our public and private universities, especially in the area of Law, Gender and Islamic studies. Most of the participants have talked about an urgent need of up-dating syllabus and include new books and articles in the respective areas. I strongly believe that apart from just including new materials, we have to produce new materials to teach some core values of the purpose of human existence on earth and how to create an inner world for every student of every disciple so that after graduation he or she become not only knowledgeable, but also compassionate to others for achieving higher goals on this planet and beyond.
Remarks by Dr, Md. Jahirul Hoque Professor & Head, DBA IIUC-Dhaka Campus
I would like to express my heartiest thanks to the organizers of the workshop for holding a two daylong workshop on the said topic which is the crying need of the day. Actually speaking, Islamization of the curriculum of the various subjects whether relating to arts, Pure science, social Science, commerce and Business, Engineering, medical etc. is imperative at all the levels of education. At the university level, this can be done with the active cooperation of those teachers who are practicing Muslims. To this end, these teachers need to be highly motivated at the institutional levels. Concluding Speech by Dr. Omar Hasan Kasuli Thank you very much for your nice presentation. I gained a lot of knowledge. I am sure on my heart that you are in right track & right issue. Just do continue. If we do this type of work Inshallah we will be able to incorporate courses with Islamic knowledge. I think these groups have worked very hard. I don’t have any comment actually. I think everything is done. Just we need to continue the work. Sometimes we do work out of excitement. We do then after a while we stop. This type of work we should not stop. Secondly everything said must be written up & published. We give the BIIT few weeks so that they can publish it. These will save us from repeating. If we don’t publish when we will meet we will discuss the same things. If it is already published then everybody will know this. Then it is already covered and we now have to go higher level. Assalamualaikum.
Education, gender & Law groups they have gone through the disciplines & identified the gaps & given the Islamic inputs. I want reemphasize that we are not to do everything. These disciplines have a lot of study scope. Which things have biased only that need to be corrected. I am very happy with gender groups that they have a lot of work to collect the research materials. Inshallah when they will start up with writing they will come-up with many good causes, our ummah is today at the risk of stole apart I don’t think that this can be solve by a gun or by canon. It can be done through family. If we lose our family we will be lost. We can’t survive and the family depends on women. We also don’t treated the Muslim women well so when non-Muslims came & wants to help them they leave us. It is very urgent to clean or correct our own house first before our enemy come and take our sisters and liberate them. We have to liberate our women before those ideologist take the responsibilities of our women. Thank you every body inshallah we will continue tomorrow.
Concluding Speech by Prof. Dr. Shamser Ali : Bismillahirrahmanir Rahim. Honorable guest-speaker Dr. Omar Hasan Kasuli, my colleagues from BIIT & Dhaka University, Assalamu Alaikum. I could not attend to listen to the deliberations of Dr. Omar Hasan Kasuli. He is a distinguished professor of medicine. We could have discussion with collaboration between our academy, Bangladesh Academy of Science & also have of South East University. We could have exchange of ideas, exchange of scholars & that would be a great thing and I Think we should do it through E-mail. I just hear to Professor Dr. Sadaruddin Ahmed Chowdhury. He is very right when he pointing out certain ways of teaching language. Professor Sadruddin is known for this. Although I wanted to point out there is a thing call curriculum review. But honestly speaking no matter how strongly we thought about curriculum reform, how strongly we advocate for Islamization of knowledge, nothing will happen. We discussed it in Darul Ihsan University long time ago with Syed Ali Ashraf, who had terrible spiritual connection. He is no more but the things that we discussed on 6th intellectual conference on Muslim education. Those results not have been put into practice, when will something happen, when we will have trained teachers. Teachers of science both physical & biological have to teach properly in the classroom. Otherwise if you put something in science, mathematics whether the Islam come in It come in a deep way, only the teacher can do it. Let me give an example, global warming, resulting from global warning, resulting from green house effect, we are talking about bio-diversity, UN protocol, QUTA protocol etc, Now Islamiztion has to do it with a very big measure. when the teacher of the science will teach from the zoology / botany there are the versed in the holy Quran which says 3.19 ......... “the man who just look at the creation of the heaven & the earth.” If you now look at the word the modern environmentalists, he has not read the Qalam, what is the spirit prime victor.
Prime Victor is that nothing has been created for nothing. This is the essential principle of ecology. so modern ecologists look the principle without knowing that this is the from the Holy Quran. The teacher who is teaching environment in the classroom, teaching zoology, biology, he has to know these verses. He has to relate it & communicate. Everything you can quote in Islamic point of view, if you treated as nicely it is Islam, if you attend with the patience it is Islamic. What is good is Islam. If you teach your spouse nicely it is Islamic. If you invite people to good things it is Islamic. But you have to relate it. Are you trying to create a theocratic state? But it’s a teacher who can mould & teach properly & Make them think that there is not any verse in the Holy Quran which is contradictory with Science & Technology. And there is nothing under the Science & Technology which is not properly addressed in the Holy Quran. So we need that kind of teachers. There are thirty million lives in the universe we scientists have studied five million including living both in plant & animal kingdom. But what about the rest twenty five million. Should they would be destroyed if they become destroyed then there will be jeopardy, then our living will become very vulnerable. every single organism be in the universe has purpose Now just one example to amplify the point, I’m trying meant & I have heard this discussion reformation, Islamization nothing will happen if you don’t have the right teachers who have to know the Qalam. If you are scientists per excellence in science, if it is literature you have to be very good. Otherwise you can’t look wide. Look our friend Omar Hasan Kasuli, he is a professor of medicine, he talks in USA, UK and any other countries and others will confused what is his specialization. What you talk it has to be excellent, has to be also very systematic and to the point. So you have to have two things: excellent teachers who know what is talking about & upgraded knowledgeable people, know the message of Allah. Latest Knowledge in one hand & on the other hand you have to have latest knowledge. So instead of diversified when I have to say today is the day we want to achieve the millennium goals. If want to serve the creation you have to have two things you have to have Qalam on one hand & kalam (pen). Qalam the message of Allah Qalam & Kalam all very simple if you create teachers with these two things then the rest of the things will take care of themselves. You need to advise them when you will invite people in these two aspects my simple methodology then you will be able to talk eye to eye with your counter part any where in the would and at the same time you will be able to spread the views by the teachers who will work for the mankind. So that they can produce good students who know Qalam against communal discrimination. Because in the Quran the whole world is treated as one single community. And still Muslims are said as communal. Muslim can never be a communal. A communal person can never be a Muslim. Then there is gender issues, even humanitarian issues, poverty alleviation issues, these are the burning questions of the day no matter whether you are the of science, arts or of humanities you have to deal this questions in your classrooms through less but just substituting one thing by another would not help my dear friends so I will say let us pray to almighty that we people will embarrass Qalam & kalam with these few words I can thank my brothers. Thanks to Dr. Omar Kasule to visit Bangladesh & my wish to visit him Bangladesh again these should not be the end. If am not wrong Teachers training program is the core of everything. I am sorry as in hurry so could not interact with fellow colleagues.
Thank you very much and may Allah help us reaching our goal.
