During the period under report Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) organized the following workshops, seminars, exchange of views and book displays in the capital city and other major cities outside Dhaka.
Workshops
A day- long workshop on ’Epistemology and Curriculum Reform with Special Reference to the Quran and Sunnah Studies ‘was held at Islamic University Kustia on 28 February 2009. It was organized by Islami University Kustia Chapter of Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT). Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan, Associate Professor of IIUM was the key note speaker.
A two days workshop on Integration of Knowledge and Its Implication to Curriculum Reform was successfully held at BIAM, Dhaka, during 5- 6, April, 2009. Prof. Dr. Mulyadhi Kartanegara, Professor of Philosophy, UIN Sharif Haedayatullah, Jakarta and Director, Centre for Philosophical Studies and Information, Jakarta, Indonesia was the keynote speaker of the workshop. The workshop was presided over by Mr. Md. Sirajul Islam (Rtd Judge) Vice President of BIIT. More than 50 faculties of different universities particularly from Dhaka University, Manarat International University, Darul Ihsan University, Bangladesh Islami University and other intuitions participated in the workshop. The workshop was moderated bu Mr. M. Abdul Aziz, Deputy Executive Director of BIIT.
Seminar/ Symposium/ Lecture
A day-long Seminar on “ Reforming the Curriculum with Special Reference to Quranic & Sunnatic Science” was held on 27 February, 2009 at BIAM, Dhaka.The seminar was divided into four sessions. In these sessions Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan presented 5 papers namely : 1) Arguments for Abrogation in the Quran: A Critique ; 2) The Role of Sound Reasoning in Hadith: Text Examination ; 3) The Quran as a criterion for Hadith text Examination; 4) Towards Understanding Islamic Paradigm of Education and 5) The Curriculum of Quran & Hadith Studies of IIUM.
A seminar on ‘Islamic Paradigm of Education’ was held on 1 March, 2009 at the Teachers -Student Centre(T.S.C.) of Islamic University Kustia, Organized by IUK Chapter of Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT). Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan , Associate Professor of International Islamic University of Malaysia was the keynote speaker in the seminar. He presented his paper on ‘Islamic Paradigm of Education’
A seminar was held at the conference hall of Southeast University Dhaka on Knowledge, Science and Religion on 5 April 2009 jointly organized by Southeast University and Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT). Prof. Dr. M. Shamser Ali, Renowned scientist and honorable Vice-Chancellor of Southeast University was present in the seminar as the Chief Guest. Mr. Md. Sirajul Islam (Rtd Judge) Vice Chairman of BIIT was present in the seminar as Special Guest. In the seminar, after recitation from the Holy Qu’ran , Prof. Dr. Abul Kalam Azad , Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Southeast University presented his welcome address and Dr. Md. Lutfur Rahman, Executive Director, BIIT introduced Prof. Dr. Mulyadhi Kartanegara and Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT). Then Prof. Dr. Mulyadhi Kartanegara presented his papers on: 1. Secularization of Science and Its Islamic answers 2. Mathematics in the Islamic Scientific Tradition
A seminar was held at IIUC Conference Hall, on Islamization of Knowledge: Indonesian Experience jointly organized by International Islamic University Chittgong (IIUC)- Dhaka Campus and Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) on 6 April, 2009. Prof. Dr. Mulyadhi Kartanegara, Professor of Philosophy, UIN Sharif Haiayatullah, Jakarta and Director, Centre for Philosophical Studies and Information, Jakarta, Indonesia was the keynote speaker in the seminar. The Seminar was presided over by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Luqman, Chief International Islamic University Chittagong IIUC-Dhaka Campus while Dr. Mr. Md. Lutfur Rahman, Executive Director of BIIT was present as the Special Guests.
A Seminar was held at the conference Hall of Social Science Faculty, Chittagong University on Integration of Knowledge with Special Reference to Curriculum Reform organized by Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT)-Chittagong Chapter on 7 April 2009. Prof. Dr. Mulyadhi Kartanegara, Professor of Philosophy, UIN Sharif Haiayatullah, Jakarta and Director, Centre for Philosophical Studies and Information, Jakarta, Indonesia was the keynote speaker in this seminar. Prof. Abdul Noor, Department of Public Administration, Chittagong University was the Chairman of this seminar while Prof. Dr. Kazi Salah Uddin, Dean, Faculty of Social Science of Chittagong University was the Chief Guest.

BIIT arranged a lecture program jointly with the American Centre of Dhaka at BIAM, Dhaka on the topic ‘The Emerging of Islamic School or Madrasa System in the USA’ on 2 April, 2009. Dr. Aslam Abdullah an American Muslim Scholar delivered the lecture on the topic. Selected Principals, Vice Principals and senior teachers of leading Madrasas and some Senior Faculty members of Islamic disciplines of different Universities of Dhaka City were present in the program.
Exchange of Views
An Exchange of Views Program of BIIT Executives with bankers was hold on 24 February, 2009 at the BIIT Conference Hall to raise local funds for BIIT.
An Exchange of views program of Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan , Associate Professor of International Islamic University of Malaysia( IIUM) with Heads of Islamic Disciplines was held on 1 March,2009 at the Conference Hall of BIIT,Uttara Dhaka. The Chairman of Islamic Studies and Arabic disciplines of public and private universities of Dhaka were present in the meeting. Discussion and exchange of views were mainly focused on some issues of Qur’an and Hadith related to higher studies as well as misgivings at home and abroad. The program was presided over by Mr. Shah Abdul Hannan, Chirman of BIIT Trust.
Datuk’ Hamidun Abdul Hamid, Deputy Rector, International Islamic University, Malaysia ( IIUM) along with his two colleagues Dr. Mrs Noor Faridah Abdul Manaf, Associate Professor and Director, Alumni and Career Service Division, IIUM and Mr.Noor Azilee bin Abdul Aziz, Assistant Director, Alumni and Career Service Division recently visited Bangladesh to launch its IIUM Alumni, Bangladesh chapter.
Dr. Aslam Abdullah an American Muslim Scholar visited Bangladesh at the last part of March,2009 as a guest of American Centre, Dhaka under their Faith Based Community Development Program.
An Exchange of Views program between Dr. Mulyadhi Kartanegara, Professor of Philosophy, UIN Sharif Haiayatullah, Jakarta Ms. Zubaida Yousuf, Managing Director of CIPSI, Jakarta and the Executive of Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought ( BIIT) and some other dignitaries took place on 5 April 2009 at the Conference hall of BIIT Uttara, Dhaka.
Marketing and Display of Books As a part of our sales promotion activities we arranged 13 (thirteen) display on our publications at several places in Dhaka, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Kustia. The Institute also organized 2-3 Day long mobile book exhibition and fair in different Universities with the permission of the authority. Though Sales were limited but response was satisfactory. This played a significant role in acquainting BIIT with these Universities. As a result of these efforts, academicians, students and teachers are availing the opportunities of collecting the publications of BIIT and IIIT. BIIT was selected to participate in several book fairs organized in Dhaka to display and sell their books & journals. These fairs were Ekushe Boi Mela arranged by Bangla Academy during 1 -28 February and Islamic Book Fair organized during 1 February - 28 March,2009 by Islami Foundation Bangladesh.
